Two Australian biotech companies have began inoculating adult volunteers in the world’s first H1N1 swine flu vaccine trials.
Adelaide – based Vaxine initiated trials Monday with 300 participants, and the Melbourne based 7 month CSL study, has 240 participants. According to the Australian Associated Press, there has been at least 41 Aussie deaths.
Both companies advise that it will be at least six weeks before and initial trial results will be made available.
Andrew Cuthbertson, CSL’s Director of Research and Development stated that they “have a specific vaccine that [they] believe [they] will be able to protect millions of people against the new H1N1 flu.”
